Your light can change someone’s day. Even the darkest storms pass. My story isn't over; the light inside me still shines for me and for those around me.
If you find yourself in the dark today, reach out. If you are strong today, be the light someone else needs. Together, we shine brighter.

The Lighthouse Project
In life, we all face storms. Moments shaped by mental health challenges, isolation, loss, or transition can feel overwhelming and endless. In those dark moments, it is easy to lose your sense of direction, purpose, or hope. For too many people, these struggles remain hidden in the shadows, unspoken and misunderstood.
The Lighthouse Project exists to pierce that darkness.
As SEA WAVES’ community outreach and suicide prevention initiative, the Lighthouse Project offers a beacon of connection, hope, and guidance for service members, veterans, and military families navigating life’s storms. We believe that connection saves lives, and that early support, community, and compassion can interrupt isolation before it turns into crisis.
Beyond broader mental health challenges, the Lighthouse Project intentionally shines a light on something often overlooked within the military community: eating disorders.
Eating disorders are among the most invisible and isolating mental health conditions, particularly in an environment where strength, discipline, and resilience are expected at all times. These struggles frequently go unnoticed, untreated, and unspoken, increasing risk for depression, self-harm, and suicide.
Eating disorders thrive in silence. Suicide risk thrives in isolation.
By creating spaces for connection, education, and shared experience, the Lighthouse Project works to reduce stigma, increase awareness, and provide supportive pathways before individuals reach a breaking point.
Our mission is grounded in a simple but powerful belief: everyone deserves a light to guide them, and everyone has the capacity to become a light for someone else.
This belief is captured in our tagline:
Need a light; be a light.
The semicolon represents resilience. It is a pause, not an ending. It reminds us that even in moments of darkness, there is still a path forward, still connection to be found, still hope ahead.
The Lighthouse Project centers on connection, community, and camaraderie as essential tools for suicide prevention and healing. Not everyone is ready for clinical care. Not everyone knows how to ask for help. But everyone deserves to feel seen, supported, and less alone.
Through low-barrier, community-driven programs, the Lighthouse Project provides meaningful opportunities to connect, reflect, and heal together.
The Lighthouse Project includes a growing network of community-based and virtual programs designed to support prevention, connection, and wellness.
Our programs include:
Being a light looks different for everyone.
You might be a light by sharing resources, checking in on someone, volunteering, donating, amplifying our message, or simply listening without judgment. Every action matters.
We invite our community to live out this message and help shine a light on eating disorders, mental health, and suicide prevention in the military community.
